Great Shakespeare Quotes! October 26, 2011 12:00 AM | Tagged as Love, Quote, sonnet

Sonnet 116

I have not studied many of Shakespeare’s sonnets, but of the few I have read, Sonnet 116 is my favorite. Here is my favorite excerpt from that sonnet:

Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove:
O no! it is an ever-fixed mark
That looks on tempests and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wandering bark,
Whose worth's unknown, although his height be taken.
I have never heard a better description of what true love should be like. Real love does not die when troubles come. Instead, it is a beacon or light to help you through those troubled times. This quote is absolutely beautiful!
